Optimizing An Energy Efficient Lighting Design

In commercial applications, lighting often accounts for over 50% of total electricity costs and energy consumption.  Understanding your potential for energy savings is important.  Conduct a professional lighting assessment to calculate your monthly electricity costs, savings potential, and carbon footprint.

Here are some common guidelines to help determine whether you can save in the long run by optimizing your lighting:
  • If lighting consumption is over 30 watts per 11 square feet (square meter), you have very inefficient lighting with lots of room for improvement.
  • If consumption is 15-30 watts per 11 square feet (square meter), you have somewhat inefficient lighting with various options for improvement.
  • If consumption is 8-15 watts per 11 square feet (square meter), you have somewhat efficient lighting with options for lighting controls and monitoring for improved efficiency
  • If under 8 watts per 11 square feet (square meter) = energy efficient lighting!
*Based on norm of 500lux/11 square feet
